While your dog probably loves a classic game of fetch or tug of war, there are many more games you can play with them to add entertainment for the day. Here are just a few simple ideas:
Use toys that dispense food or fill a Kong toy
Keep your dog entertained by giving them toys that are also a reward! Using toys that make dogs work for their treat, mentally stimulates them and enables their natural scavenging abilities. One of the easiest ways to do this is by filling a Kong toy up with a treat, such as peanut butter, and stick it in the freezer. This will keep your dog entertained for hours.
Create your own agility course
Does your dog have an exceptional amount of energy? A great way to focus that energy is by creating some form of course that your dog can go through. Not only will it use up a lot of energy, but it is also a great mental stimulant as they learn their new tricks.
Play hide & seek
A fun game that you may not have thought to try with your pup is hide and seek. Tell your dog to sit and stay while you find a hiding spot. When you’ve hidden, call out to your dog to come and find you, and wait with a treat for when they do. You may have to have someone stand with your dog the first few times you play to ensure they are staying put, but they will soon get the hang of it.
These are just a few ideas to add something fun and new for both you and your pup. Give these games a try or come up with your own to add something new to your dog’s day!
